The topic for this month: Trust.

In the practice of yoga trust is an important facet. You have to trust that your body can do the pose, and in some cases trust that you can hold and relax into the pose for the length of time you're being instructed. Balance poses and inversions (poses where you put the body upside down) provide opportunities for building trust both in the body and mind. Through regular ongoing practice we learn to trust our bodies are strong enough, flexible enough, and capable.

Taking the lessons we learn on our mat and into the world becomes the true practice of yoga. In our classes when we teach our students these character building words, like Trust, we call it Sharing Yoga with Your Buddies.

Trust takes practice, perseverance, and courage. Through learning trust with our body on the mat we gain trust within ourselves, with our teacher and the other students in class. As this trust grows we build confidence and self-esteem that filters into everything we do. When we are able to place faith or trust in ourselves or others we are able to live harmoniously, accomplish tasks, set big goals, and allow others to support us along the way. So why not, trust a little? Or a lot?! See the Kids Tips for examples of how to practice Trust.

Peace and love,
Danay
